BHT Hosts International COIL Exchange within the PACK IT Project
On 4 May 2026, Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT) hosted an international meeting dedicated to the exchange of experience in online teaching within the framework of the PACK IT project. The event brought together representatives of Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT), the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NUBiP), the National University of Food Technologies (NUFT), as well as guests and representatives from all participating partner universities.
The participants were welcomed by Prof. Carola Müller, Vice President for Academic Affairs at BHT, and Olivia Key, Director of the Office of Global Engagement at BHT. The main focus of the meeting was the exchange of experience in implementing Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) formats, as well as discussing modern approaches to distance education and international cooperation in teaching.
During the meeting, participants from German and Ukrainian partner universities presented practical examples of international online collaboration, discussed the opportunities and challenges related to virtual exchange formats, and shared their experiences of teaching in multicultural and interdisciplinary online environments. Particular attention was given to maintaining practical and interactive teaching formats in online settings, strengthening intercultural communication between students, and ensuring academic cooperation despite the challenges caused by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
BHT professors Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marcus Purat, Prof. Dr. Oliver Krüger, and Prof. Dr. Alexander Lindau presented successful examples of COIL cooperation with partner universities in Argentina, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Representing the Ukrainian universities, Prof. Olena Glazunova, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Digital Transformation at NUBiP, and Prof. Ihor Bolbot, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at NUBiP, shared practical experience in implementing COIL and distance technologies in the educational process. Prof. Oksana Petrusha, Coordinator for Distance Learning at NUFT, presented an inside perspective on teaching in the COIL format and shared experience in organizing distance learning processes under current conditions.
As part of the meeting, the Ukrainian side presented laboratory stands in the fields of automation, robotics, and physics, demonstrating opportunities for students to carry out laboratory work remotely. The participants showcased not only Moodle-based online courses and digital learning environments, but also remote laboratory solutions enabling students to perform practical experiments and interact with laboratory equipment online. The meeting also became an important platform for strengthening academic dialogue between German and Ukrainian partner universities and for developing future joint educational and research initiatives within the PACK IT network.
The PACK IT project team sincerely thanks all speakers, participants, and guests for their valuable contributions, inspiring discussions, and continued commitment to international academic cooperation.
