As part of the international COIL activities within the PACK IT project, an online lecture entitled “Development of the Packaging Industry in Ukraine” was delivered for Master’s students of Faculty V at Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT), enrolled in the degree programme Verpackungstechnik und Management (M.Eng.).
The lecture was presented by Prof. Nataliia Kulyk from the Department of Food and Pharmaceutical Production Machinery and Apparatus at the National University of Food Technologies (NUFT). During the session, students received an overview of the historical development of the Ukrainian packaging industry, current market trends, the influence of globalization and e-commerce on packaging technologies, as well as modern industrial solutions used in the sector.
Special attention was given to the transformation of packaging production in Ukraine, innovations in flexible packaging technologies, and the role of Ukrainian companies in international packaging markets. The lecture also introduced examples of modern packaging materials, industrial equipment, and technological developments used in food production and packaging industries. Ukrainian students additionally prepared a short video presentation from a local supermarket, demonstrating examples of popular Ukrainian products and their packaging solutions, which gave BHT students practical insights into everyday packaging design and consumer products in Ukraine.
This lecture formed part of the international educational programme coordinated by Prof. Stefan Junge at BHT in cooperation with international industrial partners and packaging manufacturing companies from various European countries. Through these activities, Master’s students at BHT gain a broader understanding of packaging technologies, industrial trends, and practical engineering solutions beyond Germany by learning from real examples and professional experience from countries such as Finland, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Poland, and others. In addition to online lectures and academic exchange, students are also introduced to real industrial environments through excursions to international trade fairs, packaging companies, and production facilities.
The event created an important platform for academic exchange between Ukrainian and German partner universities and further strengthened international online teaching activities within the DAAD-funded PACK IT project in the field of packaging engineering.
