Selected student projects

Media computer science students worked together with Berlin Brandenburg companies for their semester projects "Enterprise Data Management". Focal points are the topics "Search" and mining in distributed systems.

  • SpringerNature Verlag: A demo for Intention-based Search. With what intention does a customer of Springer Science actually start his search? Can we possibly even calculate a special index for these intentions and possible results a priori? Can we guide our clients to better results by typing "tricks" like Instant Search and Autocomplete while typing the request? [PDF] [DEMO]
  • ubermetrics GmbH: A benchmark generator for aggregation requests on Elastic Search. uberMetrics Technologies develops software technology at the interface between social media and big data, enabling the analysis of public communication content from over 300 million online sources, print media and TV & radio stations. This is done by aggregation requests on text-based and relational data. Can the Elastic Search Framework efficiently execute these requests on a ubermetrics dataset? [PDF] [DEMO]
  • Zalando SE: Optimization of the search for ambiguous search queries. The query is [pink sweater] but what does the customer want? A garment of the brand "Rosa" or a garment in the color "pink"? This semester, we examined methods for resolving such ambiguities, especially Language Model. Using the example of the Lucene implementation, Studeriende calculated possible interpretations from data from Zalando and implemented a ranking [PDF].
