Selcan Ipek-Ugay has been Professor of Computer Science at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences since March 2024. Before accepting the professorship, she worked in the private sector as a software development leader and business development manager and as a senior researcher in the healthcare sector. She completed her doctorate at the Institute of Medical Informatics and Department of Experimental Radiology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin.

Her research focus and interests are machine learning based exploration and visualization of medical data, especially medical image datasets, and the development of diagnosis and therapy systems based on them.
