Petra Sauer represents the subject databases and geodatabases at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin. She earned her doctorate in 1991 on database systems / database design methods and was then a visiting scientist for one year in the research programs ESPRIT and RACE of the EU Commission in Brussels. After returning to the University of Leipzig, she led the EU and DFG research projects SARBA, SOCRATES and "Electronic Market". In 1999 she went to the Westsächsische Hochschule Zwickau as a professor of business informatics. Since 2002 she has been working at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in the field of computer science and researches in the field of XML databases, geodatabases and data integration. She is the program director of the master program Medical Informatics.

In addition to participations in textbooks in the field of business and medical informatics as well as databases, she regularly publishes at many conferences such as Fossgis or the DOAG conference.
