Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Loth

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Andreas Loth is Professor of Materials Engineering and Lightweight Design at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT). He holds a doctorate in engineering and has many years of experience in both research and higher education. His research interests include microfluidics, medical engineering, electrical discharge machining (EDM), microstructuring and micromachining, metrology, friction welding of wood and bamboo, ultrasonic soldering of ceramics, glass, and metals, lightweight structures, and joining technologies for renewable materials.

Prof. Loth completed his vocational training as an industrial mechanic specializing in precision engineering at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) between 1996 and 1999. He subsequently studied Energy and Process Engineering at TU Berlin, graduating in 2006, and earned his doctorate in Microengineering at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) in 2011.

From 2007 to 2019, he worked as a research associate at the Chair of Microengineering at TU Berlin and later at the former Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin (now BHT). During this period, he also participated in an international summer school at ISTN Jakarta, Indonesia (2014).

Between 2019 and 2021, Prof. Loth served as a lecturer and member of the Department Council of the Department of Engineering (Department VIII) at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik, while also working as a research associate at Steinbeis Innovation gGmbH. In 2021, he was appointed Professor at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik, where he initially held the professorship for Design and Realization of Mechatronic Systems.
