Prof. Dr. Simon Boecker has been Professor of Bioprocess Engineering at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT) since September 2023. He is a member of the Department of Life Sciences and Technology (Department V) in the Biotechnology program. Prior to his appointment, he served as a visiting lecturer in bioprocess engineering at BHT for more than one year.

Prof. Boecker studied Biotechnology at the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin), where he earned his Diplom-Ingenieur degree in 2013 after completing research stays in South Korea and the Netherlands. He subsequently worked as a research associate at the Institutes of Chemistry and Biotechnology at TU Berlin until 2017, where he also completed his Ph.D. His doctoral research focused on the heterologous production of fungal cyclodepsipeptides and the structure and mechanisms of their synthetases.

From 2018 to 2023, Prof. Boecker was a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg in the research group Analysis and Redesign of Biological Networks. His research focused on computational strain engineering, systems biotechnology, and the optimization of microbial production processes.

In addition to his research activities, Prof. Boecker has extensive teaching experience at both Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and TU Berlin.

He has received several prestigious awards, including the Christian Wandrey Award (Forschungszentrum Jülich), the Biotechnology Future Forum Award (DECHEMA), and the Association of German Engineers (VDI) Berlin/Brandenburg Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in 2014.

Prof. Boecker has delivered numerous scientific presentations, published extensively in international journals, and is co-inventor of the 2015 patent Method for Obtaining Microbial Secondary Metabolites or Derivatives Thereof by Heterologous Expression of at Least One Synthetase of Said Secondary Metabolites in Filamentous Fungi.
