Prof. Dr. habil. Elisabeth Grohmann
Prof. Dr. habil. Elisabeth Grohmann has been Professor of Microbiology and Principal Investigator at the Berliner Hochschule für Technik since 2015. She studied Biochemistry at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz), specializing in food chemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, and immunology.
Between 1998 and 2010, Prof. Grohmann led several research groups at TU Berlin as well as the Transfer of Antibiotic Resistance research group at the University Medical Center Freiburg. In 2011–2012, she was a visiting scientist at the University of the Basque Country (Universidad del País Vasco, UPV) in Spain.
Following her appointment as Professor of Microbiology at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Freiburg from 2012 to 2014, she joined the Berliner Hochschule für Technik in 2015. Since 2018, she has headed the Microbiology Laboratory within the Biotechnology program of the Department of Life Sciences and Technology.
Prof. Grohmann is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the German Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM), and the Association for General and Applied Microbiology (VAAM). She serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals and acts as an external reviewer for national and international research projects and fellowship programs. She has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters. Her professional activities also include organizing international workshops and training courses, as well as chairing sessions at international conferences.
Throughout her career, Prof. Grohmann has supervised more than 100 undergraduate and graduate theses and 15 doctoral dissertations. She is also co-inventor of a patent entitled Novel Antigen of Enterococcal Pathogens and Its Use as a Vaccine Component for Therapy and/or Prophylaxis (EP20100190167).
With more than 25 years of teaching experience in microbiology, molecular biology, and environmental microbiology, Prof. Grohmann has made significant contributions to academic education and research. She has collaborated extensively with national and international partners and has led more than 20 externally funded research projects.
