Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johannes Bader has been Professor of Downstream Processing in the Department of Biotechnology at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Technology (BHT) since 2013. He has led several externally funded research projects, including EVA-Bio (Central Innovation Programme for SMEs, ZIM) and Advanced BioPro (European Regional Development Fund, ERDF).

Prior to joining BHT, he served for three years as Deputy Head of the Research Institute for Microbiology at the Research and Teaching Institute for Brewing (VLB Berlin).

Prof. Bader earned his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Genetics from the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) in 2008 with a dissertation entitled Process Engineering Control of Mixed Cultures for the Production of Fermented Beverages, supervised by Prof. Ulf Stahl. He subsequently led a research group at TU Berlin for five years, including a research stay at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). During this period, he acquired and coordinated numerous research projects in fermentation and downstream processing technologies.

Before pursuing an academic career, Prof. Bader completed vocational training as a chemical laboratory technician at Hoechst AG in Frankfurt am Main and received his M.Sc. in Biotechnology from the Technical University of Applied Sciences Berlin (now Berliner Hochschule für Technik, BHT) in 2006.

He serves as a reviewer for several international scientific journals, including SpringerPlus (Springer), Applied Food Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering Journal (Elsevier), and Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio).

Prof. Bader holds additional professional qualifications, including certification to work with infectious microorganisms, an accredited trainer qualification from the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), and certification as a Quality Management Representative.

Throughout his career, he has received several awards in recognition of his scientific achievements, including the Henrich-Funke Pschorr Award and an honorary certificate from the Technical University of Applied Sciences Berlin.
